The Volkswagen Virtus, a premium mid-size sedan, is available for sale in the Indian market from June 9, 2022. After 4.5 years, it will see a facelift with many upgrades on the exterior and inside the cabin. This ICE-powered sedan has been spotted testing on the public road multiple times. Recently, it was spotted testing on the Mumbai to Pune Expressway, whose spy shots are floating on the internet.
What do the Volkswagen Virtus facelift spied images reveal?
The spy shots for its most recent spotting on the public roads in India show the car wearing camouflage on the front end and rear. These spied images give hints that there will be design upgrades only on front and rear, the side set to remain the same as the existing model.
At first sight, it seems that there won’t be any dimensional changes, because the silhouette and proportions of this car look familiar. At the front end, the headlights setup, grille, and bumper are hidden behind the wrap; we are expecting an upgrade on these. Reports also suggest that there will be revised headlights setup, new front grille, and updated bumper for a totally new front-end design.
Like the front end, the rear is also hidden with the camouflage. The spied images, which show the rear-end part, reveal two illuminated horizontal elements on the sides hitting there may be a full-width LED taillight. Apart from the upgrades on the rear lighting signature, the bumper may also be revised, giving a refreshed rear-end look.
The sides, which don’t have any camouflage, show a similar outside rear view mirror on the A-pillar that also integrates slim horizontal-shaped side indicators, mechanical door handles for enhanced practicality of door opening, and multi-spoke black-outed alloy wheels enhancing road presence.

Any other upgrades on the Volkswagen Virtus facelift?
The spied image for the Volkswagen Virtus facelift only shows the exterior portion that we already have discussed above; the cabin’s details are still pending. It is certain that the cabin will have many upgrades and improvements, including upholstery and trim. The cabin is expected to get a 10.25-inch driver display, a revised infotainment system, and a 360-degree clear surround view.
The powertrain mostly will remain the same; besides a gearbox option upgrade for the 999c 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol-powered internal combustion, the option of six-speed automatic will be replaced with the eight-speed torque-converter automatic, and the six-speed manual option will continue. The power output for this ICE is all set to remain 115 PS and 178 Nm.
Reports also claim regarding the continuity of the 1498cc 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol-powered ICE that delivers 150 PS power and 250 Nm torque. The transmission option for this engine is seven-speed DSG (Direct-Shift Gearbox). The drivetrain for both the 1.0L TSI and 1.5L TSI is set to be front-wheel drive, even though their top speed and 0 to 100 kmph acceleration timing will remain unchanged.

In the last eight months, Volkswagen sold a total of 12,010 units of Volkswagen Virtus in India, including 1,881 in January 2026, 1,804 in February 2026, 2,009 in March 2026, 1,162 in April 2026, 1,238 in May 2026, 1,195 in June 2026, 1,420 in July 2026, and 1,301 in August 2026. On a month-on-month and year-on-year basis, sales have decreased by 8.38% and 22.28%, respectively, in August 2026.
