Volkswagen ID. ERA 5S Launch Expected in September 2026: 2,000 km Range, Features & Price

The launch of the Volkswagen ID. ERA 5S, a mid-size plug-in hybrid electric sedan, will happen in the third quarter of 2026. In the very near future, SAIC Volkswagen will start the pre-sale, which will be followed by the market launch. Many reports suggest that the pre-sale will begin in August 2026, so we are expecting that the launch may take place in September 2026.

Nothing is confirmed about the price of this upcoming electrified sedan. We are expecting that it will be available for sale in China with a price between 180,000 yuan and 260,000 yuan (₹25.49 lakh and ₹36.82 lakh). After the market, it will compete with the other sedans in the segment, including the BYD Han DM-i, Geely Galaxy Starshine 8 EM-P, and Chery Fulwin A9.

Under the hood, it features a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol-powered internal combustion engine with a dedicated hybrid transmission. It is also equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor. The ICE generates a maximum power of 80 kW (107 hp), and the PMSM produces 130 kW (174 hp). The top speed is 160 km/h.

Also features a lithium iron phosphate battery pack, whose capacity is still pending. Reportedly, the emission-free CLTC range is 160 km/h. The combined range, when the battery pack is fully charged and the tank is full, is 2,000 kilometers. When the battery is depleted, it gives a fuel efficiency of 2.82 liters per 100 kilometers.
