Chery Automobile, the Chinese automobile manufacturer, has recently patented two other vehicles in India to introduce them to the Indian market under the banner of JSW Chery. They have collaborated with JSW Motors to launch Chery’s model in India by locally assembling them and selling them at competitive pricing, and are all set to make their debut in India with the JSW Chery Jaecoo J5 during the festive season.
The models they have patented for the Indian market are Exeed RX and Lepas L4. A patent image floating on the web has confirmed that it is set to come with the same exterior with which it is sold in China. The RX from Chery’s Exeed is expected to make its debut in India as a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, which is known by the name Exeed Yaoguang C-DM in the Chinese market.
It is built on Chery’s M3X platform. In China, it is available for sale in three variants: 120 Long Range FWD, 210 Ultra Long Range FWD, and 200 Ultra Long Range AWD, whose prices are 139,900 yuan (₹19.73 lakh), 169,900 yuan (₹23.97 lakh), and 189,900 yuan (₹26.79 lakh), respectively.
It gets a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol-powered internal combustion engine that is mated with the Dedicated Hybrid Transmission, whose power output is 156 hp (115 kW). The FWD variants get a permanent magnet synchronous motor on the front axle; 120 variants generate the power of 265 kW and torque of 530 Nm, and 200 kW variants deliver the power of 280 kW and torque of 610 Nm.
The single AWD variant gets a PMSM on the rear axle and an induction motor on the front; their combined power output is 455 kW and 920 Nm. The acceleration timing is 4.3 seconds, 8.2 seconds, and 8.4 seconds for AWD, 120 FWD, and 200 AWD, respectively. The top speed for FWD is 180 km/h, and the same for AWD is 200 km/h.
The 120 FWD variant gets a 19.5 kWh LFP battery pack, giving it a CLTC range of 120 km; the 200 FW is equipped with a 34.5 kWh NMC LFP that runs up to 210 km; and the only AWD is also available with a 34.5 kWh NMC LFP that runs up to 200 km. The combined range for each is 1400 km.
On the other hand, the L4 from Chery’s Lepas made its global debut at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show. Notably, the Lepas is a sub-brand under Chery, which mainly focuses on exports. In India, it is likely to make its debut as a PHEV and an EV, both. The model is already on sale in South Africa, but with an internal combustion engine; the electrified powertrain will soon make its debut.
The 2026 Beijing Auto Show has already revealed the pure electric version, which gets a permanent magnet synchronous motor with a single-speed automatic transmission at the front axle. It generates the power of 160 kW, and peak torque is 175 kW. Equipped with a 67.08 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, giving a range of 450 km on WLTP conditions.
The acceleration timing for 0 to 100 km/h is 7.9 seconds, and the top speed is 170 km/h. Its supporters’ DC charger is up to 200 kW, which takes 22 minutes for 10 to 22 percent charging. Features a front-wheel-drive drivetrain. Also coming as a PHEV, it gets a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol ICE, which gets a permanent magnet synchronous motor on the front axle.
The combined power output is 205 kW, and peak torque is 395 Nm. Equipped with an 18.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack, whose emission-free range is 107 km under the WLTP condition. The combined driving range is 1,300 km.
