New Aprilia SR 125, 175 Tribute: Same Engine, Bold New Camo Look

Aprilia, the Italian motorcycle and scooter manufacturer, has launched the Tribute Edition for the Aprilia SR 125 and Aprilia SR 175 with an ex-showroom price of ₹1.17 lakh and ₹1.24 lakh, respectively, in Mumbai. Compared to the standard model, the former is ₹3,000 costlier, but the latter is only ₹2,000.

They have introduced them with military green camouflage livery featuring yellow and red graphics on the front apron and side panels with matte finishing. With this upgrade, the scooter looks more eye-catching and appealing. Besides the exterior paint job, they haven’t made any upgrades.

The SR 125 gets a 124.45cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke, 3-valve, air-cooled, SOHC petrol-powered ICE generating the maximum power of 10.6 hp at 7,300 rpm and 10.4 Nm at 6,000 rpm; on the other hand, the SR 175 model features a 174.7cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke, 3-valve, air-cooled SOHC delivering 13.2 hp at 7,200 rpm and 14.1 Nm at 6,000 rpm.

Notably, the internal combustion engine of both Aprilia scooters is mated with a continuously variable transmission featuring an electronic fuel injection system and belt drive. To accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, the SR 125 takes 4.5 seconds, but the SR 175 only takes 3.5 seconds. The top speed for the affordable model is 95 kmph, and the same for the other is 105 kmph. The ARAI-certified mileage for both is 40 kmpl.

Dimensionally, both SR 125 and SR 175 are identical. The length, width and height are 1,985 mm, 806 mm, and 1,261 mm. The wheelbase of 1,365 mm ensures the scooter remains stable even at high speed, and a ground clearance of 155 mm helps in tackling the Indian road conditions, meaning easily passing the road with potholes and speed breakers.

The seat height of 780 mm gives a comfortable riding position for all riders, but it is most ideal for individuals with heights between 5 feet 2 inches and 5 feet 5 inches. Under the seat, there is a boot space that helps in carrying the college and office bags. The underseat storage is enough that it can have two helmets easily, so the driver and pillion can put them inside it to prevent theft.

The fuel tank capacity of 6 litres helps in fewer refuelling stops for long city driving; with the 40 km/l fuel efficiency, it can run up to 240 kilometres, and the kerb weight is 118 kg for the SR 125, but the same for the SR 175, 122 kg. The former is slightly lighter, which makes it ideal for stop-and-go traffic, and the latter is heavier by just 4 kg but can be easily handled.

Both the SR 125 and SR 175 are built on a tubular steel frame whose front and rear suspension is a telescopic fork and monoshock, ensuring a comfortable riding experience. Equipped with 14-inch alloy wheels with 120/70 tubeless tyres, a disc brake manages front-wheel braking, and a drum does for the rear wheel.

The disc is more powerful than the drum, which results in strong braking with better heat absorption. The drum for the rear wheel is good for braking; competitors also offer the same. To ensure safe braking, it also features CBS (Combined Braking System), which distributes braking on both wheels.

The dashboard gets a 5.5-inch full-digital LCD instrument cluster with wireless connectivity via Bluetooth and Aprilia. Connect a mobile application showing turn-by-turn navigation. It also shows all the riding data, including speedometer, odometer, trip metre, fuel gauge, clock, real-time mileage, distance-to-empty and others.
