2026 Tata Tiago vs Maruti Swift: Which Budget Hatchback Wins in India?
On May 28, 2026, Tata Motors introduced the facelift of the Tata Tiago, a five-door compact hatchback that debuted in the Indian market back in April 2016, which is also being referred to as the 2026 model. Its main competitor in India is the Maruti Suzuki Swift; with the upgrades and changes, the new Tata Tiago is all set to give tougher competition to it. Both are powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder NA petrol engine; the main difference between them in engine type is that the Tiago gets the Revotron and the Suzuki features the Z-Series (Z12E). Compared to Maruti Suzuki’s car, Tata’s engine has more displacement by just 2 cc. The Tiago also wins in the power output comparison; the Tiago has 86 PS and 73.4 PS with CNG, while the Suzuki has only 81.6 PS and 69 PS with CNG, but in the 0-100 km/h sprint timing and maximum speed, the Maruti Suzuki’s car leads.

Dimensionally, the Tiago is 93 mm shorter and 58 mm narrower but 15 mm taller compared to the Swift. In terms of wheelbase, the Maruti Suzuki car leads, meaning it has more ample legroom for rear seating passengers. The cargo capacity in Tata’s car is 242 litres, 23 litres less than the Swift, but decent for carrying luggage. The ground clearance difference between them is 5 mm; with a better ride height, Tata’s car can easily pass the potholes and speed breakers.

Both cars’ cabins are equipped with an instrument cluster and infotainment, but the Tiago is the one which has a larger touchscreen at the centre of the dashboard. Notably, the Tata car is one which has an eight-speaker sound system, and compared to the six-speaker sound system in the Maruti Suzuki car, it has a better sound experience. The Tiago gets a two-spoke steering wheel, but the Swift comes with a three-spoke. In terms of look, Tata’s car has the best styling.

The newly introduced Tiago is available for sale with an ex-showroom price ranging from ₹4.69 lakh to ₹8.55 lakh, but the Maruti Suzuki Swift’s hatchback is priced at ₹5.79 to ₹7.71 lakh.
