Ampere Magnus Neo Updated Version Launched at ₹86,999 - 118 km Range, 3 Ride Modes

The Ampere, a sub-brand of Greaves Electric Mobility, has introduced the updated version of the Magnus Neo, an electric scooter for daily commuting. It is available with the ex-showroom price of ₹86,999, only ₹2,099 costlier than the regular one. Its rivals in the India market are Ather Rizta, Ola S1 X, Hero Electric Optima, and TVS Orbiter.

Colour Options & Underpinnings

The scooter comes in four different colour options, which are Mystic Mauve, Butter Yellow, Ocean Blue, and Matcha Green; among them, the Butter Yellow looks more attractive. It features a dual-frame chassis, which is strong enough for daily loads and bad roads.

The front wheel gets hydraulic telescopic fork suspension that absorbs bumps from potholes and speed breakers, and the rear gets coil springs that maintain stability on uneven roads. The front and rear brakes are drums, not strong but adequate for braking in a scooter.

The front wheels are 12 inches in size and the rear is 10 inches; they are made up of steel that provides better road grip. Its wheelbase, the distance between front and rear wheels, is 1390 mm to provide better stability, and a ground clearance of 158 mm helps the scooter easily pass the potholes and speed breakers.

Design, Features & Ergonomics

Ampere Magnus Neo Updated Version

The scooter comes with the neutral styling which makes it suitable for all age groups of riders. The scooter features a totally flat floorboard, giving more space for feet and carrying bags. To make it family friendly, it gets a long seat along with the wide body and features LED headlights and indicators, but the tail lamp is a conventional bulb; they add a modern touch and give better visibility.

It gets a 3.5-inch LCD console, which shows speed, battery level, trip, clock, and indicators. It also features USB charging ports for mobile phone charging during the ride. A push-button start option is added for convenience and a reverse mode to help with the parking. It comes with 22-litre under-seat storage, can be used for carrying a helmet, groceries and office bag, and for safety it also gets CBS (Combined Braking System).

For better ergonomics, the two-wheeler comes with a seat height of 777 mm that gives a comfortable rider position to short-height individuals. Its kerb weight is 103 kg, which makes it a lighter scooter and helps in easy city manoeuvring and parking. It comes with a large single seat with a grab rail and footrests, so both rider and pillion can care comfortably.

Powertrain & Performance

The scooter gets a brushless direct current hub motor, which is mounted with the rear wheel. The power output is 2.4 KW, and peak torque is 110 Nm, helping in quick pickup in traffic. It comes with a 2.3 kWh LPF battery pack, whose Indian Driving Cycle range is 118 km; the real-world range is 85 km to 95 km, depending on driving condition.

The acceleration timing for 0-40 km/h is 6.5 seconds, ideal in the segment for traffic overtaking and signal-to-signal riding, and top speed goes up to 65 km, which is good for city driving but not for highway cruising. It comes with three driving modes that are Eco, Power and City; the first one helps with maximum range, and the last two come with better acceleration.

Features automatic transmission, meaning there is no gear or clutch, and its inclining ability is 12 degrees, meaning it can climb up flyovers. Its maximum load capacity is 150 kg and comes with a charger, tool kit, and first-aid kit. Using an off-board charger of 7.5 A, it takes only 5 hours for 0 to 80 per cent charging; a full charge takes up to 6 hours.
