On September 18, 2026, Kia India, the Indian subsidiary of the South Korean automobile manufacturer, launched the Kia Carens CNG and Kia Carens Clavis CNG. The former one is available for sale with one variant and the latter with two. These models have been introduced for the buyers who are looking for the more fuel-efficient option of these two seven-seater MPVs.

The Kia Carens CNG is a seven-seater multi-purpose vehicle, and the Kia Carens Clavis CNG is also a 7-seater MPV but with more premium features. They are available for sale in the Indian market with many similarities. These MPVs have the same powertrain, and even their fuel tank capacity is similar. Other similarities include suspension setup and an underbody-mounted spare wheel.

Variant and price.
The Kia Carens CNG variant is Premium (O) with the ex-showroom price of ₹12.12 lakh, and the Kia Carens Clavis CNG for HTE and HTE (O) with the ex-showroom prices of ₹12.39 lakh and ₹13.35 lakh, respectively. Compared to pure-petrol variants, they are ₹1 lakh costlier.
Powertrain and performance.
These MPVs from Kia get a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol-powered internal combustion engine that delivers 96 hp power and 123 Nm torque. Compared to the pure petrol version, it delivers 19 hp less power and 21 Nm less torque. The ICE is mated with a six-speed manual transmission, and the drivetrain is front-wheel-drive.
The real-world fuel efficiency is 22 to 25 km per kg depending on driving style and condition. The acceleration timing and top speed details are still pending for both of these models. They are anticipated to be slightly less than pure petrol.
Dimensions and size.
The length, width, and height of the Kia Carens CNG are 4,540 mm, 1,800 mm, and 1,708 mm, respectively, with a wheelbase of 2,780 mm; and the Kia Carens Clavis CNG has a length of 4,550 mm, and other dimensions are similar to its sibling. The seating capacity is 7 people in 2-3-2 with a boot space of 116 litres, 100 litres less compared to pure-petrol versions.
The second and third row seats are foldable; folding these seats helps in extending the cargo capacity to enhance luggage-carrying practicality. The second-row seats are ideal for adults, but their row seats are mainly designed for kids and pets. Two teenage occupants can comfortably seat in the third row.
Features and technology.
These cars come with the semi-leatherette upholstery with 2nd-row 60:40 split seats; the second-row seats also have reclining and tumble functions, and even its third-row seats have reclining features. Apart from the air conditioning vents in the front row, the second and third rows also have AC vents that keep the occupants cool during the hot weather.
Other features include keyless entry, tilt-adjustable steering, power windows, and driver-seat height adjustment. The Carens Clavis HTE (O) is equipped with the 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless smartphone connectivity via Android Auto and Apple Carplay. It is integrated with a four-speaker sound system and also has two tweakers that enhance the audio experience inside the cabin.
The 4.2-inch colour TFT MID is standard for both of these CNG models that show all the driving data, including distance-to-empty details, when running on CNG. These two cars both come with the fuel-change switch, which helps switch the fuel type. As safety features, they come with 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Hill-assist control, and others.
Underpinning and other details.
The Kia Carens CNG and Kia Carens Clavis CNG are built on the K2 platform with monocoque construction. They get an independent MacPherson strut with coil springs as front suspension and a coupled torsion-beam axle with coil springs as rear suspension, with electric power steering.
The solid disc brakes are standard for both models on the 16-inch tyres; in these CNG models the braking system is tuned for better braking. For braking safety, it also has a brake-force distribution and anti-locking braking system.
