The Maruti Suzuki WagonR is a compact and tall body hatchback available for sale in the Indian market from December 1999. Its first generation was on sale until 2010, the second generation was sold out between 2010 and 2019, and the third generation is on sale from 2019. Seven years later, the current-generation model gets a facelift back in 2022; now the second facelift has been confirmed with its test mules sightings on the road.
The spied images of the second facelift of the third-generation WagonR are shared online by the ‘What The Fuel’ account on Instagram. In the spy shots the vehicle can can clear seen wearing heavy camouflage to hide the changes, but there are no changes in its silhouette and proportions, meaning the dimensions are set to remain the same as the outgoing model. They are:
- Length: 3,655 mm
- Width: 1,620 mm
- Height: 1,675 mm
- Wheelbase: 2,435 mm
- Ground clearance: 170 mm
- Boot space: 341 litres
In the spy shots, the headlights setup seems to be retained with the few tweaks adding design changes. Other things on the exterior that look familiar are the in-profile and rear design. Exterior changes such as a new grille and revised front and rear bumper are highly anticipated for this upcoming car.
The test mule spotted is a mid-level variant because it sits on steel wheels, doesn’t have fog lamps at the front end, gets blinkers on the front fender instead of the outside rear view mirror, and even has a wiper for the rear windscreen missing. On of the spied image also shows a portion of the dashboard, but no changes are seen, hinting the mid-range variant won’t get any major interior upgrades.
Reports suggest that in the top-end variant, there will be many upgrades and improvements, such as a larger touchscreen infotainment system, ventilated front seats, and much more. Apart from the exterior and interior changes, an upgrade to the powertrain is also anticipated. Maruti Suzuki is highly expected to offer Z12E family 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol-powered internal combustion engine.
The same ICE was also introduced for the Maruti Suzuki Baleno facelift, in which it delivers 83 hp power and 112 Nm peak torque. The transmission options are expected to be 5-speed manual and automated manual. With this engine option the manufacturer won’t only launch the facelift of WagonR as a pure petrol, but also as a CNG alternative, whose power output will be little less.
For the CNG variants, the tank will be placed beneath the floor; it won’t be inside the boot space, meaning the cargo capacity for all the models is going to remain the same to enhance practicality of carrying the luggage. It is confirmed that for this facelift there won’t be any structure changes; the platform, suspension and braking setup are set to remain the same as the outgoing model.
Details regarding its launch are still uncertain; Maruti Suzuki will soon confirm the timeline. The variants for this upcoming WagonR facelift will remain the same as the first facelift of the 3rd generation model; they will be LXi, VXi, ZXi and ZXi Plus. Reports suggest that the launch may take place by late 2026, and the pricing may see an increase of ₹50,000 to ₹1 lakh depending on the variant.
The outgoing model is available for sale with the ex-showroom price starting from ₹4.99 lakh, and it goes up to ₹6.97 lakh; we are expecting that the upcoming Maruti Suzuki WagonR facelift will cost between ₹5.5 lakh and ₹7.5 lakh. The launch of the facelift will further and strength is positioning against the compact hatchbacks such as the Tata Tiago, Renault Kwid, and others.
